We want to create a global family of freedivers. While emphasizing on creating a national freediving team in Costa Rica. How do we plan on doing this?

  • Give freediving courses, training, talks, and events.
  • Offer spearfishing safety courses and spearfishing charters.
  • Provide marine conservation courses, talks, and information.
  • Focus on bringing value to each students individual needs so they can progress at their own pace and needs.
  • Create local associations to promote freediving.
  • Through various associations create a national federation.
  • Emphasize safe freediving practices and how to conduct safe training environments.

Brad Stephens

Founder | Freediving & Spearfishing Instructor Trainer | Captain

Originally from Chicago, USA Brad decided to move Costa Rica at the age of 20 to peruse a career in diving and enjoy the beach life. He started by teaching scuba diving.  However he felt something was missing.

Once he tried spearfishing and freediving he quickly gave up the tanks. Making these newly found passions a new way of life. Starting Rica Freedivers in 2018.

Brad enjoys the self discovery, discipline, and mental focus you learn as a freediver and empowering his students to find the same.

Andres Leon

Lead Freediving Instructor | Captain | Content Creator

Leon was born in San José but has lived on the coast and been training in freediving since January 2021. He is a graphic designer and professional photographer by trade.

He is deeply passionate about nature, especially marine life, conservation, and living a sustainable lifestyle for the planet.

His mom is my biggest inspiration, as she was the one who introduced him to the world of sports. During Leon’s youth, he practiced gymnastics, parkour, mountain biking, functional training, and yoga. This developed a deep love for physical disciplines and a strong competitive spirit.

Currently, Leon aims to become the best freediver in Costa Rica. Representing the country by competing internationally and setting national records. He hope to inspire other Costa Ricans to join this sport and help promote Costa Rica as a paradise destination for learning and training in freediving.
